SEEE GVPCE(A) - IEI STUDENT CHAPTER
DEBATE COMPETITION
Name of the Event: Debate Competition
Organized by: SEEE members.
Event description: Debate Competition is an informative event conducted by SEEE GVPCE (A) under IEI Student Chapter for the participants/students to improve their spontaneous thinking and understanding, to enhance their mind power as well as their speaking proficiency. The teams were divided into three rows and were asked to have a structured argument between the topics they chose. As each points were thrown light on, the teams understood and agreed on both the sides of the given topic with proper reasoning finding a solution.
The topic/issue that was chosen is as follows-
“Social Media brings more harm than good”
Below are the points drawn out from the summarized discussions of the debate –
Social media is a source of harm as it leads to cybercrime. In the view of a student’s life, social media plays a distractive role leading to the consumption of time which also becomes a mental health affecting factor. People also get masked in the name of online marketing on social media and start to make deals with strangers which is prone of danger.
On the other hand, Social media plays an equally positive role in the education of one’s life. Many applications like Byjus, Coursera are educational websites which help in the self-growth of one’s education. Social media also includes digital marketing creating a platform for young crafts persons to showcase their skills and make money genuinely. Adding up to the point that this platform also allows or opens the doors to the real world of networking where we get to meet new people, new inspirational stories and so on. Also social media websites have excelled to help farmers eliminating the middle men.
As a coin has two sides, to balance the
advantages as well as the disadvantages, we could conclude that social media
can be used in the right way with the right awareness following the below
solutions-
Applications should be inbuilt with a feature
where the app will be closed after a certain limit such that the user will not
get distracted and focus on what’s more important.
The Government should remove the option accepting all the cookies. Social Media apps should not be available to people from age groups 12 to 15. In order to identify that, the apps must request for identification proofs. Hence, Social media can be used in a good way until a person has control over it with safe and proper usage.
